A few weeks ago, I went to Penang for a tug-of-war competition and personal retreat. I chanced upon G Hotel and I thought it was nice. The five star hotel offers more than meets the price. Yes, price, not eye.
G is short for Gurney and must I say it is also G for gigantic property. I booked G Hotel Kelawai because it is super near to and located in between Gurney Plaza and Gurney Paragon Mall. These two malls are popular and brand names like Adidas, Tommy Hilfiger, Polo Ralph Lauren and even H&M can be found in either of these two malls. That is how convenient it is!
The location is so strategic that I was undecided whether to go to Gurney Plaza or Gurney Paragon Mall first because both malls are good and accessible.
When I checked in G Hotel Kelawai, I was greeted by their helpful and primly dressed bellboy. To check in and be served with a cup of ice cream that ease the waiting time, is really top-tier. Let’s remember that the dessert was served, not self-service like some other five-star hotels would have it.
The room is large for a five-star hotel and the bed is super fluffy and comfortable! I think we can agree that we love luxury hotels white crisp linen! The drinks in the fridge are complimentary and they top up every day! You’d never be parched.
The selling point of G Hotel Kelawai, is the sexy, all-white marble bathroom that you can look out to while you do your big business or take a bath (depending on your room type). I think the design is astounding as you seek inspiration from the outside to relieve yourself easily.
Above all, the full height windows in the bathroom lets in natural light that really complements its aesthetic.
Amongst the many things that I like is the rooftop pool overlooking the mountains and the 24-hour gym. I think next time, I want to go there again but with a friend or friends because it feels awkward to go alone. Not that I am uncomfortable alone but with friends at least I have someone to help me take my photos right!
If you think rooftop pool and 24-hour gym facing the mountain is passe and unoriginal, here is something more bougie for your liking. G Hotel has a buggy service that sends you to the nearest entrance of Gurney Plaza, and their twin property G Hotel Gurney! Look at how elated I was to be the only person on the buggy because riding it alone makes it feel luxurious like that. I actually quite enjoy that and had a laugh by myself. You don’t get this sort of luxurious thrill elsewhere!
But the real purpose of the buggy is so that you can shuttle between G Hotel Gurney and G Hotel Kelawai and use either facilities seamlessly without reservations. In other words, if you are a patron of G Hotel Kelawai and would like to use the swimming pool at G Hotel Gurney because it has a jacuzzi, you can do so freely! You can even have breakfast at G Hotel Gurney as both sides offer different types of menu.
I should really jio my friends to stay here next time because if we don’t win any races at least we have a bloody good time lepaking here, recover from our sorrow and joy ride the buggy like nobody’s business. Then have a massage at Thai Odessy like we deserve it!
If you are here with your family, G Hotel Gurney makes perfect fit as it is designed to be family-oriented. The property has a wading pool, adult pool and a jacuzzi. G Hotel Kelawai on the other hand is designed to be more intimate with lap pool and art gallery with works from local artists.
So if you’re asking what five-star hotel is good in Penang, G Hotel is definitely a go!
